A method for controlling fungi and bacteria which comprises applying biocidally effective amounts of a cis or trans compound of the formula of where n is an integer from 1 to 2 inclusive; x is 0 or the integer 1; R and R'' may be the same or different, and are selected from the group consisting of phenyl, benzyl, tolyl, methoxyphenyl, halophenyl and halobenzyl; R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl and halogen directly in contact with said organism.
  • 7. The method of claim 6 wherein the compound is contacted with the fungi and bacteria by first applying it to a locus to be protected.
  • 8. A composition for killing algae consisting essentially of a cis or trans compound of the formula where n is an integer from 1 to 2 inclusive; x is 0 or the integer 1; R and R'' may be the same or different, and are selected from the group consisting of phenyl, benzyl, tolyl, methoxyphenyl, halophenyl and halobenzyl; R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl and halogen and a carrier therefor.
  • 9. A method for controlling algae which comprises applying biocidally effective amounts of a cis or trans compound of the formula of where n is an integer from 1 to 2 inclusive; x is 0 or the integer 1; R and R'' may be the same or different, and are selected from the group consisting of phenyl, benzyl, tolyl, methoxyphenyl, halophenyl and halobenzyl; R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl and halogen directly in contact with said organism.
